Jumpstart Your College Essay Workshop

In Jumpstart Your College Essay Workshop, students will take part in a Harvard-incubated essay curriculum to gain knowledge about the “College Essay Genre”, learn the essential components of the Common Application Essay, and understand how to differentiate themselves authentically to successfully tackle the college application.

Due to the impact of COVID-19 on standardized tests and student GPAs, admissions officials agree that more is riding on the college essay in 2021 than ever before.

“The essay will be the ‘code’ to break into the college realm and the key to the enrollment managers’ recruitment process.

– Dr. Peter Folan, President of Catholic Memorial School

Our 2-hour Jumpstart Your College Essay Workshop will help Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors demystify the college application essay and learn the skills they need to strengthen their writing abilities. Students will not only walk away with the tools to craft a college essay that reflects who they are with authenticity and sincerity – they will also receive individualized action plans that will help them apply these tools successfully.

Students will gain:

  • Familiarity with the college essay form and a stronger sense of how to evaluate what admissions officers look for. (Admissions officers read 500+ essays a year. How can applicants write an essay that will stand out?)
  • A comprehensive guide for finding the right topic, and tips on how to apply personal life experience to specific essay questions.
  • An opportunity to explore Common Application questions and review successful college essay samples to gain inspiration.
  • A multi-page Action Plan that includes personalized feedback and guidance from an expert Advisor.
  • Stronger writing skills and the confidence to complete college applications.
  • BONUS: Digital Parent Resource Toolkit – How to Help Your Teen Achieve College Application Success
    Includes multiple resources such as…
    – What’s a College Essay in 2021, Anyway?!
    – How many schools use the Common App, and why is it important?
    – How has the essay form changed since even a few years ago?
